About The Heat Loan Program

The HEAT program allows homeowners to borrow up to $25,000 and spread the payments out over up to 7 years without paying any interest. You can combine your federal tax credits, state rebates, and no-interest financing to greatly reduce the upfront costs of your home project.
Upfront costs are typically the biggest obstacle to upgrading your heating and cooling system. Combining the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 tax credits, Mass Save® rebates, and 0% interest HEAT loan can help you overcome that barrier.

FAQS
Who is eligible for the Mass Save® HEAT Loan?
To qualify:
- The loan applicant must be the homeowner
- The resident must have an electric or gas service with a participating Mass Save utility sponsor, including Berkshire Gas, Cape Light Compact, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, or Unitil
- You must complete a Home Energy Assessment before applying
Do I need to complete a Mass Save® Home Energy Assessment before applying?
Yes, doing a Home Energy Assessment is required before applying. The assessment identifies what energy-saving upgrades your home needs and if those upgrades are eligible for the HEAT loan.
Does applying for a HEAT loan involve a credit check?
Yes. The authorization letter you get from the Sponsors of Mass Save shows that your upgraded equipment is eligible, but the actual loan is issued through a participating bank or credit union.
Why is my HEAT loan not for the full proposed amount?
The loan amount covers the cost of your eligible equipment, minus any rebates that you qualify for. Since the rebates are subtracted from the total upfront, they cannot be rolled into the loan amount.
If I installed heat pumps before completing a Home Energy Assessment or weatherization, am I still eligible for the whole-home heat pump rebate?
Yes, if your Home Energy Assessment or weatherization work is done within 6 months of your heat pump installation, the rebate will be paid when weatherization is complete.
How long will it take to get my rebate?
It can take up to eight weeks for your rebates to process.
How can I track the status of my heat pump rebate?
Rebate submissions can be tracked through the Mass Save Online Rebate Portal.
